Drawing from their backgrounds across free improvisation, contemporary & experimental music, free jazz, and deep listening, Marianne Sihvonen and Wilson Tanner Smith present a free-ranging set of electroacoustic improvisations on flutes, cello, objects, and voice alongside a backdrop of field recordings and deeply intentioned minimalism.

Wilson Tanner Smith (USA/FI) is a Helsinki-based composer, improviser, cellist, and music-theatre artist originally from Philadelphia/Chicago, USA. His work is rooted in a sense of Presence and Reflecting: plumbing the various influences that shape a given [place, gesture, gathering, moment] in order to cultivate an awareness of the relationships we have with the people, systems, and structures we live with. As a cellist/improviser he has performed at venues such as the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Estonia Kontserdisaal, Narva Art Center/Kreenholm Factory (Estonia), Le Périscope (Lyon), and the Mullbau (Lucerne). He is also a member of the Chicago-based improvising quartet Mad Myth Science, whose debut album was released August 2023 to acclaim from The Wire, the Quietus, Chicago Reader, and Stereogum.

Marianne Sihvonen is a Finnish-Sámi performer-composer, renowned for her exploration of diverse creative practices and her dedication to contemporary music. Her own compositions are an evocative blend of improvisation on various flutes, vocals and electronic elements. Marianne’s artistic journey spans Northern Europe, with notable performances at venues such as Båstad Chamber Music Festival, Aarhus Chamber Music Festival, INN:PUST Festival in Norway and Nepal Music Center in Kathmandu. She is currently pursuing a flute soloist diploma at Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.
