Formatik is a new music club focusing on improvised music, in the heart of Kallio. The club, hosted by Melik Turunen, presents early encounters of small groups composed of local improvising musicians. The line-up of the second club will be complemented by composer JP Kervinen and trumpet player Eero Savela!
Jukka-Pekka Kervinen is a Finnish composer, writer and visual artist. His works are mainly experimental, computer-oriented including algorithmic composing methods. Compositions consists of chamber music, solo works, microtonal and post-minimal music. He has experimented also combining various genres and styles like techno, IDM, breaks and glitch with computer assisted composing systems. He’s known for being part of the international composer collective Wandelweiser, and for being a diligent performing artist, improvising on a plethora of different instruments.
Eero Savela is a trumpet player who has worked extensively in the field of music and performing arts since 2000. His work is often in interdisciplinary interaction with other artists. Savela has played jazz and world music as well as a wide variety of rhythm music styles in wind sections and as a soloist. He has composed and been in design groups and performed in many dance, circus and theater performances.
